Free Database Program

I help out with ICT Y5 in one of my primary's for an hour a week and its time to use databases.

 

I've come a bit stuck in trying to find a free program to do the job

 

I tried out OpenOffice Base but that seems to be just a bit user hostile and too complicated for holding small databases on planets or kings and queens etc.

 

Anyone got any suggestions - don't even mind an MySQL type solution if anyone can recommend an easy to use front-end for viewing and querying.

 

I'm a bit narked not to be able to find somehting suitable myself because in my previous life I actually wrote a database program (TxBase) for the BBC Micro that would do exactly what I need (Always keep old programs - you never know when they might prove usefull )

We use Junior Pinpoint for Y5. It's fairly cheap to buy, they do a concurrent site licence and the filtering is good. One of the things I start with is a "Guess Who" game using filtering to eliminate the suspects. Kids love it.

mySQL + apache + php + phpmyadmin is free (and industry standard), but its probably not WYSIWYG enough.
