Recommended Tablets

Hi

 

I was wondering if anyone can recommend a good tablet policy that they have implemented.

 

We are struggling to recommend a standard platform and policy and I was wondering if anyone had any success with this.

All of the platforms are a massive pain (there have been several posts raging at all of them lately, ipads, Windows and android. - apart from learnpad which seems to be fine) it depends on what you use and what you want out of it as to which rod you recommend for your own back. Concur that's why we followed the learnpad route; (apart from wireless issues with the older dual core devices resolved through firmware update and issues with our line speed)

the tablets have been easy to set up and manage. All apps are educational based and they are now in the final stages of aligning the lesson profiles and apps in line with the new curriculum.

individual iPads are a good route to take.

 

Don't worry about managing them if they are for individual BYOD users and they work very well.

You need to decide whether you are looking for one to one scheme where every student has a device or class sets. Tablets such as ipads are easier with one to one rather than class sets.

We are looking at chromebooks at the moment - cheaper than ipads and much easier to manage via google console. Very fast start up time and eight hour battery life.

How do you mean easier one to one than class sets?

ipads are easier as a personal device - you give one to a student and let them run the apps they want, set it up how they want and sync their documents.

A class set - you have to mess around with some sort of configuration utility - see loads of threads on edugeek about the issues. When the next student uses it do you set it to wipe or not? how do you keep the configurations if a student has changed them - students have to remember to logout of itunes etc. or the next student can access their work and alter it or delete it.

Tablet-wise, learnpads all the way I have seen a few schools use this and from a management, students and member of staff POV they're 10x better than any other tablet on the market, they run android so all the apps available on android are available on these devices!
