[sims] SIMS: a report to tell me about new staff and students

Hello all,

Apart from the tech side of things I know little about how to use SIMS but wonder if it can be used to my benefit. My school is a great place to be however communication is just rubbish to the point where I get random people turning up, claiming to be the new teacher of something where I have not been told.

Anyway I wonder if there is a report I can create which can tell me about new members staff and students who are entered into SIMS. Maybe a new since "X" or something? Any help would be so welcome as my day would just become so much easier if I knew just how many laptops I need in general.

You may not have permission to view staff details, so a report on them probably won't work, but it would be based on start date.

For students it's possible to create a basic report with a condition on the admission date being after the first day of term, or a user entered date at runtime.

I do have permissions to view staff and student information (don't believe I can edit or see salary though but never really checked). I will have a look around but if anyone knows exactly what to type then please do say.

The students is a basic report really, and you won't need the filter on Tier, just on admission date. The staff one would be similar.

Personally, students I would use salamandersoft to auto generate student user accounts, staff I would have a word with someone like the Head's PA about how the recruitment process happens and just point out that IT needs to be in the loop early on if they hope to make that shiny new teacher useful from day one.

Another way (for students at least) is to set up a dynamic Group in Discover with ALL students in it.

 

Set the group to send a message whenever anyone joins or leaves the group.

 

You'll then get a message on your homepage when students join or leave...
