There should be no possibility of seeds just slipping out the end and being able to deal with very small seeds typical of salad plants would be the target (that magic seeder looks OK for larger seeds but would struggle with small ones). 1

Should be OK if at least 3/4 cooked if you are careful. Obviously there are thermometers that will tell you the temperature in the middle of a cake- dunno if that would help?

The thermometer only tells you temperature, not how long at that temperature. If you do the cocktail stick test it should be moist but not stuck to the stick.
sted Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I wouldn't mind something that was universal as far as connecting to the car with an LCD Screen so it would show similar info to what newer cars have ref how many more miles you can drive, typical miles per gallon that you would get depending on how you are driving ie how fast etc, outside temp, date / time and any other useful info I've got a 2001 car and it doesnt show me this, also maybe could link it into the cars ECU to show any errors ie engine errors etc youd be surprised what you can get out of old cars. Old fords even before that if you have the digital odometer WILL show you loads of that sort of info if you know how to get to it as i believe will old vauxhalls but cant remember how iirc on fords hold down trip reset before you put the key in and keep it help down while starting the car and it goes into diag mode and shows mpg and all sorts. Another idea is there are garmins that have an attachment that shows all sorts of info as well but thats really no differenr from ios/androis apps and an obd2 bluetooth dongle

Garacesh Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 Omnitools! No, seriously. Onmitools need to exist. On a more realistic note, wrist-/arm-/hand-mounted utility/tool kits would be a life saver. How you'd pull it off without just being "Tools in a strap of leather" I'm not too sure, but I can't count how many times I've been under desks/building furniture/dismantling a PC/whatever and I've got a collection of tools around me and I'm constantly looking for this, then that, then I can't find this again.. Wrist-mounted things are cool as a rule anyway. Maybe if it had things like a torch, anti-static bracelet etc built in, instead of typical screwdrivers or such, that would be more unique, rather than it just being a differently shaped toolkit? 1

(magnetic mat may not be the best way to go if you're moving a lot, though) Maybe an isolated LED and 2 wires to test if there's electricity between 2 points? (I have no idea if that would even work, but you couldn't fit a voltmeter in there, for example, just thinking of similar things) The odd one or two empty 'sleeves' for frequently used screwdrivers/hex keys/etc wouldn't go amiss Hard to think on the spot, but I'll keep pondering. If you do the cocktail stick test it should be moist but not stuck to the stick. So what you want is really a two pronged thermocouple thermometer probe with a capacitive moisture sensing ability in a thermally hardened device. You chuck it in (maybe three prongs for stability) at the start then it can check and log the core temp and consistency of the cake. Possibly a Bluetooth connection to a phone for settings and output so it can show how long it has been at a certain temp and the consistency via capacitance. If you did multiple sweeps from and two each of the probes you would get a very accurate reading of the moisture and density. Problem is such a device while doable would be expensive for the hardened components and energy harvesting. Especially for something that can be tested for by other much cheaper means. Could still be a nice project though. 1
