Morning all, bit of a question here (I know - a serious post by me! *checks outside for signs of the apocalypse*)

 

One of my sites has a number of iPads, and as far as I'm aware - they're all using the same account, meaning that all of them can have the same apps on without having to buy %apps% multiple times.

 

(I'll also add this was set up previous to me being here).

 

Now, they're looking at something called proloquo - which is apparently really good, (and it'd better be as the cost for said app is £150). I've done my best "hold on thar, Bucky" as I'm sure there's a maximum multiple number of devices you can attach your account to, and they're talking about buying more iPads.

 

Can anyone advise on how many devices they can get away with? Or, a better way to do this?

 

I don't want the school to end up being charged £150 per device and I'll freely admit that my knowledge on iStuff is somewhat lacking - as I generally see it as 'single end user kit'.

Are they dead set on getting proloquo? We used it here before, and many people said they were much cheaper alternatives for pretty much the same end result...MychoicePad being one IIRC (sorry if i'm hijacking...)

It's a single user licence... I don't think "it's the same account" will cut it as an excuse.

Proloquo is a mac only programi think, i am assuming you are meaning proloquo2go @korifugi if you are talking about ipads ???

Don't worry - you're not hijacking, I'd much prefer it if they didn't spend £150 on a single app, especially if they have to shell out per device, when they told me the cost I almost did a "How Much? Does it wash the dishes too?"

Like @Tesla said, that's the desktop version.

 

The app just points to Apple's T&C's which I'm assuming say you aren't allowed to do this.

 

There's also the fact that they offer 50% off of bulk orders [20 or more], they wouldn't do that if you only needed 1... [uS only though...]

Sorry, yes - proloquo2go. Although judging by the fact I'm going to make them play by the rules, and it's cost (and there's alternatives) it'll be prolohowaboutno.

When the statements were reviewed for the children who they would like to be using Proloquo2Go with, they should have received targeted funding specifically for those who need it, therefore, the price shouldn't be anything you or they need to concern yourself with. Just buy the correct number of licenses to match the students with a statemented need for assistive / augmented communication devices where further funding was approved - they should have the budget to one side and earmarked for that purpose already. If not, then the question to be asked is: Why not?

 

My personal experience with these apps: Mychoicepad (free) only has limited symbols (*50) - once you reach the limits of those symbols, it's £129.99 for MyChoicePadPro (which still only gives you 450 symbols. More require further inapp purchases, whereas Proloquo2Go gives you 10000 symbols from the outset), and it has no switch access (altho iOS accessibility may take care of that in some regards at OS level, Proloquo2Go handles it natively in-app). Proloquo2Go also has a better infrastructure behind it in terms of training & support too. Scene & Heard is the other big contender, at a small price (£35 minus 50% for edu thru VPP), with a similar symbol set of Proloquo2Go... but a (much) more complex workflow - and resulted in my first smashed iPad when my son couldn't get to grips with it and thus he launched the aforementioned iPad out of his bedroom window to avert a meltdown.

 

Experience with my 10yr old son and opinions of parents of some of his classmates: Proloquo2Go tends to win hands down with majority of students. Where other apps were tried, progression was no where near as rapid, and when we finally had to switch over to Proloquo2Go, the different workflows simply complicated matters. Ultimately, we'd have been better off all using Proloquo2Go from the outset.
