caffrey Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Sorry I'm new to SIMS and it's a new install When editing or creating users you can email the login details to the user buy pressing the email button - this gives you a few options, one of which is outlook however we don't use outlook as we are a google apps school. How can I change the SMTP settings for this ?
Griff Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 Did some digging in the help files and found this statement under the email stuff... "You will not be able to use this functionality unless you have a MAPI-compliant email application installed on your PC." I guess what you could do is configure your Google account via POP into Outlook (the program) and see if you can get it working that way? 1
caffrey Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 Thanks Griff, Since moving to Google I've removed outlook on the PC's - I suppose I'll need to make an exception for the the Data Manager and link them up to a SMTP server I've set up. Is there anything in there that explains how to change the default ? I clicked on the email button and 3 choices came up - now it's permanently set.
Griff Posted June 5, 2014 Posted June 5, 2014 not sure how you set the default program via SIMS but in Windows Control Panel >> Programs >> Default Programs >> Set Default Programs From there you can set like Outlook as default email program or I guess if you have others installed Thunderbird it would show there..
caffrey Posted June 5, 2014 Author Posted June 5, 2014 It's not listed under default programs unfortunately, luckily we only need this for one PC for the moment - it's probably buried in some sims settings in the sims folder,I'll have a look through.
coolhands Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 (edited) Just bumping this - we use google for our emails not outlook. We have staff emails saved in sims. Is there any way to email them and especially use the email username / password when I have to reset their passwords? I just want to do something so simple - click the email button and it emails them! Anyone know how / if this can be done? is something like https://www.mapi4gmail.com/ or https://www.affixa.com/enterprise/ the only options? (do they work has anyone tried) Edited January 7, 2021 by coolhands
caffrey Posted January 7, 2021 Author Posted January 7, 2021 Wow, been a while I think at the time I put outlook on the data managers PC to initially send out all details, I think they just manually send out new logins as people start but I'm not sure now We still have a smtp relay that sends email via google for old legacy stuff
HPlum78 Posted January 7, 2021 Posted January 7, 2021 I ain't used SIMS for well let's say some years.... Can it not just be pointed at an SMTP endpoint! Surly it don't have to load a client side app to mail these days?
coolhands Posted January 13, 2021 Posted January 13, 2021 Here was their solution: Hi SIMS uses the default mail app defined on the workstation in Default App settings. You can select an app from here (if there is a G Suite Client available this may be possible). Best wishes, 1
