fiza Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 The thread title says "Shared Network Drive" so I would hazard a guess that the OP is looking for some hardware like a NAS device? Possibly wrote software when it should have read hardware?

synaesthesia Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 do what things? Have a permissable shared folder? Any OS will do that, it's quite basic stuff. Is there something in particular you are struggling with?

dhicks Posted May 23, 2014 Posted May 23, 2014 i want AD authentication so that i dont have to create username and passwords for the users A standard install of Windows Server will do file sharing just fine - if you're buying a new server you might as well get Windows Server 2012 R2, the most recent one. You just install Windows Server, make it a member of your domain, install the "file sharing" role and select folders to share with users. You can set up your own Linux-based Samba server to do this for free, but an easier option might be to use something like FreeNAS (also free), an all-in-one NAS solution that you can install on whatever hardware you like (or as a virtual machine). 1
