jd20075 Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 hi all our wsus 2008 server will not download the wsus updates, any ideas. Thanks
themightymrp Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Any more information?? Are you behind a proxy? Do you sync from an upstream server (ISP's?) Have you set automatic approvals? Do you get any error messages? Has it worked before and has now stopped?
jd20075 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 have done manual sync and no proxy, however did have to move the content folder to other drive on the same server due to lack of disc space.

themightymrp Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 Is the new folder location D:\WSUS\WsusContent ? Or is that the old place?
jd20075 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 D:\WSUS\WsusContent (new) C:\WSUS\WsusContent (old)
themightymrp Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 How did you repoint WSUS to the new location? The official method is: 1. Create a new content directory on another drive. 2. Locate the WSUSUtil.exe utility in the Tools directory of your WSUS installation (typically C:\Program Files\Update Services\Tools). 3. Open a command window, navigate to the Tools directory, and type the following: 4. wsusutil movecontentNewContentPathMoveLog 5. where NewContentPath is the new content directory, and MoveLog is the path and filename of the log for this operation.
jd20075 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 correct, i also had to go into iss to correct the content path from c: D: as this did not change as part of the proceess
cpjitservices Posted May 22, 2014 Posted May 22, 2014 If the above didnt work - I'd remove the service and start again.
jd20075 Posted May 22, 2014 Author Posted May 22, 2014 clients are downloading updates however the server is not
jd20075 Posted May 23, 2014 Author Posted May 23, 2014 Would like to not restart from scratch any ideas
MattRVBC Posted June 25, 2014 Posted June 25, 2014 I have had endless issues with WSUS although at the moment this seems to be working quite well. In this instance it sounds like the WSUS sever cannot retrieve the updates/synchronise with windows update. This first thing I would check is connectivity to windows update, are you connecting via a proxy? If so then try bypassing the proxy directly through your firewall (http 80 and https 443 ports required) and see if this resolves your issue. Depending on your proxy/firewall check your logs to see if any traffic is being blocked either by firewall/proxy rules or any IPS you may have running. Hope this helps, let me know how you get on. Cheers Matt
