Wake On Lan - Has anyone managed to WOL a Dell 755 with Win 7?

Hi,

We have recently started supporting a primary school woth Dell 755`s

 

They have "Intel 82566DM-2 Gigabit Network Connection" onboard LAN.

I have set up the BIOS to WOL and have enabled the magic packet tick on the network card but I cant get them to Wake?

 

Previously on our lenovos we had to install the full Intel driver that popped many more options in the card properties, but there doesn't seem to be a driver from intel?

 

Has anyone please had success?

Yep we have a load of 755 at our place, must be about 5 years old. Not had any of the problems you are having. Will check our bios version and the settings. The drivers arent up to date either.

I can recall having to update the BIOS on this model to get WoL to work - the feature was there in the BIOS it just didn't do anything.

They are definetly in need of a BIOS update. They are on A09>A11

I think A21 is out now. This was going to be my next move but didnt think this would be it as the options are there in the menu!

At least i know its possible!

You have to make sure switch off low power mode in the bios otherwise WOL will not work.

I think the 755 maybe an older model that doesn't support this (and you need MDT or SCCM to do this) but this article could help - Update Dell BIOS using SCCM 2012 Task Sequence | my world of IT

Just checked one of our Dell 755s and this is what i have got set:

 

Bios Version A09

 

Power Management

AC Recovery = Off

Auto Power on = Off

Auto power time = 12:00pm (obviously disabled)

Low Power Mode = Off --> With this option set on, the integrated NIC will be disabled when the system is in the hibernate or off state. Only add-in NIC cards will be able to remotely wake the system.

Remote Wake up = On

Suspend mode = S3

 

Like @fiza said, low power mode needs to be off.
