Morning all,

Can someone tell me in an easy to understand manor what my options are for replacing our ISA 2006 server with a modern solution are please? I don't have an SCCM and although I am aware of TMG, I feel I need a current and up to date product. Some AV solutions seem to have solutions for this but they seem really expensive.

All I have it for is pointing external addresses to a few internal servers (moodle for example) and one LDAP rule so don't need anything too impressive.

It may not be until later in the year but I cant go on much longer with such an old piece of software.

Thanks all

We use a Smoothwall UTM appliance for firewall, routing and web filtering.

Its a nice all in one solution.

isa is now known as "Microsoft Forefront Threat Management Gateway (Forefront TMG)". if you don't need lots of rules. a squid linux proxy is easy enough to set up and run. Edited by browolf

if you want a great firewall I'd highly recommend Fortinet.

If you want to know the correct spec for your school then let me know and I'll advise on the best device.

Thanks

+1 highly configurable, supports multiple IPs, IP6 and even filtering along with advanced routing like BGP if you want to handle multiple connections efficiently and has a custom no nonsence OS. TMG is junk and end of line - equal odds of it being an unstable gibbering mess even under its native 2k8 and no IP6 support. Have not used Smoothwall which may or may not match the firewall featureset of the Fortigate, smoothwalls filtering is probably more comprehensive but may not match it as a firewall.
