Hey all.

Looking at getting back into running, but have had a history of shin splints, i have bought and worn the shin splint velcro supports over the past couple of years on and off, and i am just wondering if anyone knows any runners from their clubs or anything who use compression socks at all for shinsplints?

i am looking at investing in a pair (such as these but don't wish to waste my money if they aren't that good. I don't mind the shin splint supports i currently have, but the velcro wears out after a while, and they do look a bit odd when running! (especially as a trialled a different set and now have different supports on each leg...)

Also any tips from any runners about treating shin splints?

Thanks in advance.

The most important thing with shinsplints is to get decent running shoes. Until your shoes support your feet properly you will continue to get pain. You may need to go to a specialist shop where you can get the insoles adjusted to cushion your feet where necessary.

I did go to a running shop, they monitored my running style etc and recommended (and i bought) a pair that has a lot of support due to my shin splints.

Try barefoot running. Well, not completely, but try running in almost no support, and staying on your toes.

Reall cheap daps could be the way to test this without wasting money on expensive solutions.

I found this improved my running no end. Especially with the feeling you experience.

Well that gives away which part of the country you are from @box_l

I haven't had a pair of daps since I was in primary school in the west country. I moved to Yorkshire and they immediately became plimsolls!

Tried running on my toes, i struggle as it puts more pressure on my shins that way, and it makes it worse, not better.
