Today's small win.

Last week our Axis IP-server print server PSU expired.

 

This is a weird little box that USB interfaces a canon MFD to the lan and allows the printer and scanner to be shared.

 

The history behind this device is that someone sold us the MFD as being the next model up which had lan scanning on it, when it turned up it wasn't the right one. We jumped up and down about it and they couldn't get the one we had ordered so sent us, at their own cost, the Axis box and it has worked beautifully ever since.

 

They are megabucks to replace (~£150 - which is significantly more than the printer)

 

The PSU is an odd thing rated at 5.1v and with a very small end, and not available to buy in that guise any more, they have redesigned it to run with a more normal 12v psu.

 

Anyway, I was looking through a box yesterday and I stumbled across an old Nokia charger that was rated at5.6v - whats .5 of a volt between friends and it too had a tiny end, so I poked the end in the hole - it fitted. Checked the polarity - correct. Plugged it all up and away it went.

It's a tiny bit less. 1.4a for the new Vs. 1.6a on the old one.
