dibekem Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Morning guys. I have a user who has lost quite a lot of his documents. Very important ones. I've looked on the server on the backups but its nothing there. I know that he hardly switch his pc off. I think his been working on a temporary profile and since he restarted his pc last week he noticed the lose of documents. His profile looks okay now but i guess his logged in okay now. Is there any way i can get back those documents? Im going to work on the pc in 40 min. Thanks
Norphy Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Assuming that he's been saving documents on his PC, the first thing to do is to get him to turn his PC of NOW and then take the hard drive out of it. Hook the hard drive up to another machine and use a piece of software like GetDataBack to scan the disk and see there is any data to be recovered. If so, recover it. If not, lecture him as to why it's a bad idea to store anything in one place.
synaesthesia Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Also well worth investigating why that happened in the first place; look at alternative profiles, locking down with GPO further to prevent it happening again.
dibekem Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 One thing I forgot to mention. His been saving to the documents folder which has the folder redirection on so he thought when he saves to documents folder its all okay. Now i showed him how to go to computer than his drive than save there. Which should be better. Slower but safer.
dibekem Posted May 6, 2014 Author Posted May 6, 2014 Thanks. Ive downloaded the program with NTFS. thats the correct one isn't it?
