User profile sync problems help

I am having problems with a users profile after moving them from an old XP machine to windows 7

 

At first I got temp profile sync notice so I copied a working profile, renamed the old v2 one , copied over the share and corrected permissions in the roaming profiles. Now I get group policy Client service failed the logon access denied. I've cleared the machine from any user profile and checked the registry.

 

I've done this before fine but can't remember what I'm doing wrong..

Well after changing the ownership and a gpupdate I can now login properly (how did I miss that) but I get a sync error when it logs out.
