WANTED: Surplus 80s/90s computers!

Hello all.

 

I'm after a bit of help in getting together some items for a small 'live' display we're hoiping to put together for a school event. The idea is to show the development of Home Computers (and Games consoles) from the 70/80's through to today. To do this, I'm hoping to obtain working examples of machines from each era.

 

So if you have any old 'historic' kit you'd like to donate to us, or loan for a couple of days, then I'd like to hear from you!

 

I'm after examples of Old PCs from the 80's/90's, anything that's going spare. Want to have authentic machines from the eras if possible. Also consoles like the sega master system, origenal nintendo, megadrive, Atari consoles, N64 etc. Machines like BBC micro/Spectrum/Amstrad CPC/C64/Amiga/Atarti ST anything else along those lines.

 

I'll basically consider anything relevant, as long as it works please. I want to narrow it down to about 8 computers made in the last 20-25 years, but it depends on what I can get. The key here is to show how computers used to function and how they looked and sounded in the past, and hopefuly provoke the 'I used to have one of those' reaction from parents!

 

I can collect items in and around the kent/essex/sussex areas. I would prefer items people are prepared to give to us, but I would consider a donation to schools that help us, or buying items if people have them personally, but I havn't got much to spend.

 

If you have any items you might consider loaning to us for a couple of days, I can assure you they will be well looked after and I will make sure they are returned to you promptly.

 

So come on people, search the back of your old store room, the back corner of your loft for that long forgotten piece of kit, and give it a good home!

I can't offer you anything personally, but you might like to join your local Freecycle group and see if anyone has anything you're after.

 

Also this post might get more views if the subject was changed to something like "WANTED: Surplus 80s/90s computers" or similar

good idea, didn't think about the post title, Took we ages to write that post. lol. Someone else suggested Freecycle earlier when we were talking about this idea in the office. Haven't had the chance to check it out yet.

Donation or loan, I don't mind which. I only need the items for 2 days, and if it's sucessful we may do the same thing next year with a bit more planning!

 

Basically they're going to form part of our open evening next week, aim is to do a timeline of computing history on one side of an ICT suite, with working PCs from the different eras for people to have a play on!.

 

It's only to try and do something a bit different that people might remember. I know it's great to show off the rooms upon rooms of fancy new PCs we have, but there's not really a lot of 'fun' in that, and our open evenings are fairly informal and meant to be a bit of 'fun' for the students and parents lookin round. (Plus we've got to beat the English departments display, as they always have the best display)

 

We only had the idea today, and the head of ICT liked it, so I'm going to see if 5 days is enough time to sort it out!
