Hi Guys

Need a little help

We have Moodle 2.5 installed on Windows 2008 R2 using a Moodle Windows Installer package

I need to upgrade to Moodle 2.6.

Has anyone got a guide on using the windows installer for Moodle 2.6 to upgarde. Unsure of the steps to take

Any help would be appreciated

Thanks

Hi,

The moodle installers just setup a WAMP server (Windows Apache MySQL Lamp) server for you. To update, you use the same method as everybody else. I can go into a bit of depth when it's not midnight, just let me know if you need some more help.

You might have figured it out already, or my simple answer could have helped.

Okay, so you should start by putting your site into maintenance mode.

Maintenance mode - MoodleDocs for information on how to do that

Secondly, make a backup of your C:\XAMPP\htdocs

Thirdly, take a snapshot of the database. You can do this in PHPMyAdmin. Do you have that?

Fourth, delete the contents of C:\XAMPP\htdocs (Make sure you have the backup!!!!!!!!!!)

Finally (okay, maybe finally) go to your backup from step 1, and copy your config.php back to C:\XAMPP\htdocs

If you had any plugins, you'll need to copy those back in

To finish off, and actually perform the upgrade, go into the admin panel and head to Settings > Site administration > Notifications and trigger the update.

Now disable maintenance mode ;)

Let me know if you have questions or hit any issues.

Good morning

I haven't got PHPMyAdmin, should I download version 4.1.13 which appears to be the latest

Is there anything I should be aware of when installing phpmyadmin

Thanks

Hey Barry,

Yeah, you can download that.

Create a folder called supersecretstuffgoesinhere or something ridiculous in c:/xampp/htdocs, then extract the files into it.

It's important not to call it phpmyadmin or anything like that, for security reasons, and when you're done, cut the folder and paste it somewhere else, so it's not exploitable
