Anyone swapped out a Samsung Laptop Keyboard?

I have changed a good few laptop keyboards in my time - mostly Dells and HPs. This is the first time I have had to change the keyboard on a Samsung. I have practically had to take the whole laptop apart. Take the mainboard out and even then the keyboard is not screwed in - it is in place with plastic which has been melted onto the main chassis. You have to scrape off the plastic tabs to get the keyboard out. When you have managed that and then put the replacement in you are missing the melted plastic. The below video on youtube suggests using a soldering iron to melt the remaining plastic back into place. Its for a different model but they are almost identical.

 

 

 

 

Has anyone replaced a keyboard on a Samsung (NP300E5C). Am I doing this all wrong ?

Nasty, looks like soldering iron is the way to go though, they don't want you to be changing them if you have to go to that much trouble.

Had to have one of these apart to look into repairing the DC connector and noticed the keyboard issue then; I have to say it put me off the prospect of buying a Samsung laptop for myself or recommending that anyone else buy one (which is a shame because some of their other models do look very nice). I would agree that it does look very much like the soldering iron is the way to go...

Brought in my soldering iron from home this morning. Keyboard is now fitted but I guess my 5 year warranty is out the window as I did a self repair. If anyone opens the laptop in future it will be obvious that someone has had a go with a soldering iron. Not easy working a soldering iron on plastic!!!
