Temporary Profile message with Mandatory Profile

So we have Mandatory profiles setup on Windows 7, and all works great. The only problem is every time someone logs on they get the 'You have been logged on with a temporary profile' message from the system tray.

 

Is this normal? Never does it on XP machines.

no this is not normal

 

are your mandatory profile .v2 or are you still using the profiles for xp

 

example

 

profile for xp would be

 

folder name teachers

 

for windows 7

 

folder name teachers.v2

 

the message is pretty much telling you that the pc could not find the specified profile

Yeah, they are .v2 profiles.

 

That made me think of something, would the profile path in AD have to be \\sjc-storage\usersprofiles$\student.v2

 

I was under the impression that windows would know to pick up a .v2 profile if needed? Maybe I was told wrong...

Have checked all the share permissions etc, and still can't work out why we get that message.

 

The profile does get loaded it seems, just that popup message keeps appearing...

I'm getting this on an account too - profile seems to load and behave ok but still get that message. If you get to the bottom of it let us know!

Our office staff all have roaming profiles on windows 7 - works a treat.

 

We are making the move to W7 on all the classroom computers, got it all setup nicely. Yet the mandatory profile keeps loading as temporary... confused...

yes thats correct

\\sjc-storage\usersprofiles$\student.v2

for xp you should have

\\sjc-storage\usersprofiles$\student

 

in ad the profile path for the user should be

 

\\sjc-storage\usersprofiles$\student

 

windows works out which one to load

 

 

 

have you changed the ntuser.dat to ntuser.man

Yep, changed to .man

Is it keeping an old entry for where the user profile should come from / be cached to in the Registry? Some workstations get very stubborn about that.

 

HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList

 

(Off the top of my head.)

check the event viewer it should give you an indication of what is going wrong

 

it might be a bung profile also

 

 

how did you create it

check on edugeek as im sure i found a guide to follow

our ad points to \\schoolserver\desktops\student so it is pretty much the same as yours

also i think someone posted a pre made default profile for windows 7 on here

Perfect! Followed the bits we needed on that link and now works a treat!

 

Ours must have been messed up, also a few things on that that we didn't do before.
