Admiral208 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Hi guys, I need to test the DR plan. I want to restore our first DC, which is a 2008r2 physical box, using backupexec 2010 to a hyper-v 2012 virtual machine that I have set up. Has anyone done this before? Would this even work as I am restoring to different hardware? If its possible, how can I keep the restored DC away from the production network? Can I connect the backupexec box to directly to the hyper-v box and restore without it being connected to the rest of the network? Any help would be much appreciated. thanks James
fiza Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I would be careful converting a domain controller to virtual. It may be best to demote the DC first then convert it. You can promote it back again after. When converting physical to virtual I have used Disk2VHD as I use HyperV.
Admiral208 Posted April 15, 2014 Author Posted April 15, 2014 I dont want to convert the DC, i want to restore the DC from backup to a virtual machine to test out DR plan.

Oaktech Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 What Fiza said... Our new domain is done with 3 virtual (across 2 physical hosts) and 1 physical DC to allow the DR plan to be quickly implementing onto anything capable of running VMware. the physical DC can come later when suitable hardware is available again.
