Hard disk constantly checking

This PC has had failed hard-drives before but it's current game is checking the disk at every boot-up.

 

It boots, loads the Windows icon, then 'checks' the disk - then loads normally.

 

It's really frustrating - I can't figure out why. It doesn't appear to completing the check which could be why it is doing it every time.

 

Anyone know a way around this? Thanks.

have you tried changing the sata cable and/or the port it's plugged into on the motherboard?

Yeah have done all of that.

I have just done the first option on here;

Check Disk - Reset - Windows 7 Help Forums

and it hasn't come back up, so perhaps it was an error which had just stuck.

 

Fingers crossed because I have a pile of computers to get through!!!

Surley you are better off fixing the problem rather than forcing chkdsk not to run.

 

Assuming it's windows 7 as you posted a link to sevenforums.

 

try running sfc /scannow in an elevated command prompt.

 

if that fails, run some hard disk diagnostics, if it's a dell it's got them built in. If you fail the diags, check that the machine is still under warranty.

I thought the same, but according to the forum post which sent me to that link, if there is a problem, it will come back up. This just like, clears the error. But if there is something, it will do it again. Have I been told wrong??

Sounds about right, just stopping a chkdsk from running until the next time an issue is flagged up.

 

I'd do some diags on the hardware mate since you said that the machine has had disks fail in it before now
