nathan Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 We have a fortigate firewall and i'm pretty sure it doesn't include caching (i may be wrong on this). I'm thinking of plugging smoothwall express in between the fortigate and the switch and enabling the transparent proxy. We are constantly maxing our bandwidth out, so does this sound advisable?
tmcd35 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 The percentage of the web that is now either encrypted (https) or dynamic (php/asp) means I very much doubt a web cache would have any lasting effect on your bandwidth. Either look at QoS rules and see if you can reduce streaming, if you think sites like YouTube or iPlayer are an issue, or pony up for more bandwidth.

I think I'll give it a test anyway, no harm in doing that. If only we could afford bigger bandwidth, unfortunately we're in the middle of nowhere.
