I've been given an HP, Win XP laptop to fix from one of the local Primary Schools. Even though it hasn't got a recovery disk, I've got it working again as to wipe it would be a pain!

Trouble is I cant get the Welcome Screen to come up. In the user accounts settings in the control panel it won't let me change the settings as 'Client Services for NetWare has disabled the Welcome screen and Fast User Switching'.

Netware isn't installed anyware on the PC as far as I can see and I've tried to change the settings in the regisrty, but to no avail. Has anyone any idea, or do I need to wipe it and start afresh?

I need to have the Welcome screen as it's for kids from 5 upwards.

Cheers

You find the client services for Netware in the network card properties, along side TCP\IP. Simply unisntall them (try booting in safe mode (possible with networking)) from here. My neighbours son keeps on installing this and it kills his PC as it drags the speed right down and make the PC do stange things.

Nope! There is no sign of Newtware in the card's properties. I signed in as the admin in safe mode and it's just nowhere to be seen, yet it's 'there'!

If you right click My Network Places, click properties it should be in the centre box labled 'This connection uses the following items'. If not then drastic action may have to be taken.

Sysprep the machine - that should take it back to defaults :D

Nope, that hasn't fixed it!

Something drastic is about to happen I think! May as well start afresh.

Ta all anyway.
