clareq Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 We had the bare bones of our new domain commissioned last week - hyper-v hosts, a couple of DCs, WDS and KMS. Since the hand over I've been creating some servers in SC-VMM manager, using the same template for each - Server 2012 R2 Standard. The first eight activated via the KMS host with no problem, the last two I have done have failed to activate, with the error "The activation server reported that the key has hit the maximum unlock count". I am using the correct KMS key. Any ideas how I can activate these servers?

clareq Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 (edited) @uffy2000 If I need a second KMS host (and I'm not sure why I would) why did the first eight activate with no problems. @localzuk XXXXx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-B2G6R Edited March 31, 2014 by clareq
localzuk Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Oh, I didn't mean the actual key (you probably want to remove that!). I mean "what is the key for? Windows 2012 Server Standard? Datacenter? etc...?"
clareq Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks localzuk - you pointed me in the right direction - I double checked the licence key that had been used by the commissioning company, and it was incorrect - I've used VAMT to change it to xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-MDVJX, and they activated immediately.
uffy2000 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 oops I was thinking of the KMS threshold for activation which is 5 before a KMS becomes active. have you tried slmgr.vbs /dlv to show details of activations?
