dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Ok so i have some really strange issues with 8.1 kms activation and it appears to be a permissions issue, does anyone know what permissions are needed on the client for kms activation to work? Problems i am getting are as follows when i run slmgr.vbs i get an error telling me that i need to run slui, when i paste the public client key into the ui it says it cannot be validated. any help will be greatly appreciated. Das
william_tropico Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Is the KMS Server itself activated? I know it sounds stupid but wasn't that obvious to us. Also what does it say in event viewer on the client for KMS service?
dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 We don't have any problems with office or windows 7. As for the logs the KMS Service logs are blank.
computer_expert Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Is the KMS server running 2012 (not r2) or below? If it is, then run the update below, then install the 2012R2 KMS key from the VLSC. Update adds support for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 clients to Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2012 KMS hosts
dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Wish it was that easy, update already installed and the code for R2, We are using 2012
Valyyn Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 This might be a silly question, but is exactly the problem I had yesterday... When you say you added the code for R2, did you just add it into the VAMT tool? That's what I did and it doesn't work. You have to actually replace the KMS server itselfs key with the 2012 R2 one, using slmgr.vbs -ipk followed by slmgr.vbs -ato That didn't seem intuitive to me because our KMS is 2008 R2 so it seemed odd telling it to use the 2012 R2 key, but that sorted it for me!
dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Trying it now that sounds like the problem, report back soon
dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 is there anything i need to do on the problem clients? as it doesnt seem to be working
dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 (edited) This is the error i get and no its not firewall. 0xc0000022 Access Denied A process has requested access to an object, but has not been granted those access rights. Edited March 26, 2014 by dastrix
dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 Yeah that's set to network service, am I correct in saying that it starts on demand?
caffrey Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Mines set to automatic (delayed start, trigger start) on windows 8.1 as a network service
dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 ok so its set to delayed start if i start it then run slmgr /ato the service stops and i get the same errors
dastrix Posted March 26, 2014 Author Posted March 26, 2014 forgot to mention its only Windows that fails office works fine.
dastrix Posted March 27, 2014 Author Posted March 27, 2014 Update, I have upgraded the OS to "012 R2 this morning and we are still getting the same issues anyone got any other ideas.
rickjames Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I'm fine with Windows but Office is playing up. I can install a key just fine, but when I go to active it it tells me that 'No KMS could be contacted'. Tried that update hotfix (we're running Server 2012 R2) but it says it's not applicable. ARGH SOMEONE HELP ME.
caffrey Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Did you install the office key management service host ? KMS wouldn't work for me till I did that - also check your DNS
linkazoid Posted January 7, 2015 Posted January 7, 2015 i'm having this issue too. I have a 8.1 client with Office 2013 x86 installed. When trying to activate it says the KMS could not be contacted. Our KMS server is running Server 2012 not R2. All Windows 7 clients activate and so does the Office 2013 on them. I have reapplied the Office 2013 kms_host.vbs and it told me I need to install KB 2885698 from Update adds support for Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2 clients to Windows Server 2008, Windows 7, Windows Server 2008 R2, Windows 8, and Windows Server 2012 KMS hosts - I chose the All supported x64-based versions of Windows Server 2012. Which downloads Windows8-RT-KB2885698-x64.msu. I then attempt to install this on the server and get the following error. Installer encountered and error: 0x80070422 The service cannot not be started, either because it is disabled or becauise it has no enabled devices associated with it. Can anyone point me in the right direction... Thanks. Michael
Steve21 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Anyone??? Do you have Software Protection disabled? Steve
Steve21 Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 No, the service is started and running. And bits, DcomLaunch, wuauserv? Steve 1
linkazoid Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 And bits, DcomLaunch, wuauserv? Steve BITS and wuauserv were either stopped or disabled. I have enabled and started them both and the update applied. It then got stuck at 67% on the restart. I think this will solve the issue, but I need to resolve why it's getting stuck on the restart. I'll post back when this issue is solved. Thanks for your help @Steve21 Michael
