fiza Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 i have been happily using MDT 2012 to deploy Windows 7 64bit machines since the summer. I now need to deploy some 32bit windows 7 machines. I have created a reference machine loaded with 32bit Windows 7. Captured it and am now trying to deploy it to a virtual machine. The deployment starts and I can select the OS in the task sequence list. On the first reboot during the deployment process the VM blue screens. Have I missed something?
Steve21 Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Did you put the 32bit drivers in for the boot images, in terms of network etc? Steve
fiza Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 Did you put the 32bit drivers in for the boot images, in terms of network etc? Steve How do I check? I didn't do anything other than update my deployment share and tick x86 for platforms supported. It generated an x86 wim file which I added to the WDS boot images folder.
fiza Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 Did you create the image in a VM too? @Arthur - The reference image was created on a Dell 780 physical machine.
Arthur Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 The reference image was created on a Dell 780 physical machine. That's probably why it isn't working then. The image should be created in a VM too.
fiza Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 That's probably why it isn't working then. The image should be created in a VM too. So if I deploy it back to a physical machine it should work?
Arthur Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 Did you get the '0x7B' blue screen in the VM? Is the 32-bit image just going to deployed to the OptiPlex 780's?
fiza Posted March 21, 2014 Author Posted March 21, 2014 Did you get the '0x7B' blue screen in the VM? Is the 32-bit image just going to deployed to the OptiPlex 780's? The blue screen disappears too fast on the VM and it reboots. Yes the image is only going on the 780's.
Arthur Posted March 21, 2014 Posted March 21, 2014 The blue screen disappears too fast on the VM and it reboots. You can disable the automatic restart option by pressing F8. This will enable you to view the BSOD. Yes the image is only going on the 780's. In that case, it's probably not worth recreating the image from scratch in a VM since it should work on the other 780's, although in the future creating the image in a VM would be preferable to a physical machine. 1
fiza Posted March 24, 2014 Author Posted March 24, 2014 Tried to deploy the image to a physical machine but gets to the point of first reboot but doesn't log back in again. I remember when I set up the 64bit images that I had to amend the Unattend.xml to re-enable the local administrator account. When I look at the properties of the new task sequence and click on edit Unattend.xml I get an error message "Unable to generate a catalog for x86 operating system image while running on an x64 operating system" I am running MDT 2012 update 1. How can I edit the unattend.xml? - - - Updated - - - Tried to deploy the image to a physical machine but gets to the point of first reboot but doesn't log back in again. free780 Posted March 24, 2014 Posted March 24, 2014 The local admin account is re-enabled by default in MDT. If you need to change anything in the answer file you need WAIK/WADK installed on a 32bit OS. Its annoying. - - - Updated - - - The local admin account is re-enabled by default in MDT.
