Macs and Windows 7 shares

Can OSX not connect to shares on Windows 7 PCs?

 

I've setup some shares on a Win7 box and can access them from anything (using domain authentication) apart from the 10.6.8 and 10.9 Macs. I've searched around and tried the usual stuff like dropping the level of NTLM authentication and making sure authenticated users have read access to the root of the share etc, but the Macs just time out when accessing the share via smb://pcname/share - 'The server 'name' may not exist' etc

 

I can access server based shares, so does osx just not play nicely with windows 7 shares?

Works perfectly fine here on a Windows Server 2008 R2 share, mounts the Pupil Share, Staff Share and home drive on the desktop when users login.

Hmm I can access shares on a server 2008 and server 2003 as well, just not the windows 7 ones

Hmm I've been through and a few similar ones but no joy. I'll try recreating one of the shares next.
