The one that stands out

A teacher from a nearby town passed away recently, and the messages and posts I have seen from friends on social media from friends who attended the school make you realise he was that one teacher that stood out. I know when I was at school there was a teacher, again a geography one that stood out and you had respect for just because of the way he was. There was a few others but does this exist in schools today? I know going back to the Educating Yorkshire topic there was a few that stuck out to me but as I work in and out of schools I see less of it these days.

 

For those of you that work in schools is it there, or is there members of staff that stick out to you or even going back to when you was at school? I know some people who went to schools they are now working at what are your thoughts?

I do a lot of work in special schools and there are quite a few that would shine in mainstream if they could keep the same motivation. I don't think that the move toward mediocrity is teacher driven. When I was at school, teaching was what you made of it. There were some very bad teachers that hopefully wouldn't be allowed today but there were some inspirational teachers too who taught you values as well as subject matter. Teachers have too much on their plates these days and are generally working them selves into the ground just to keep up. What might have been interesting enrichment once over, would be a distraction in today's micro-managed class rooms. even with all that said, there are still ones who shine (JZ you know who you are!)
