Files lose security settings

Hi, on a server 2003 file server I've just asked to move a large amount of files into an archive folder. After doing this, some files have lost their security settings - in fact when I right click on the file and select 'properties' there is no security tab!!

 

I can open the files without issue (I'm an admin) but other people can't.

 

I've tried a number of things such as creating a new folder, applying fresh security settings to it and then copying the files into that... this has worked for the Word docs but strangely NOT for the Excel docs.

 

Anyone got any ideas?

Ahhhh, mystery solved. The files that were causing me issues where in folders with massively long names! Nesting them inside another folder caused Windows some issues. By shortening the folder names a resolved the problem.

 

When I say massively long, I mean MASSIVELY! More like a (long!) sentence than a filename...
