Hide access to onedrivepro and still allow access to SharePoint on office 365

Hello,

 

 

Is it possible to disable\Hide access to one drive pro and still allow access to SharePoint on office 365?

 

 

I hate it with a passion, the re-use of my sites blows - IMHO Staff and students get better functionality if they sign up to the personal one drive service and use that.

 

Bang goes our plan for having some degree of control over users personal cloud storage access like we used to in live@edu

Found this to try: CIAOPS: Disabling SkyDrive Pro in Office 365

The above links 2nd method does work but would need to be run for every single user if they created a OneDrive account. I've previously disabled permissions via Sharepoint Admin > User Profiles > Manage User Permissions... then used a student security group to deny 'Create personal Site (required for personal storage, newsfeed and following content)' which worked great.

 

Testing today I've realized this doesn't stop the creation of personal sites at all, it simply removes the hyperlinks for OneDrive, sites and newsfeeds. Previously we still used Sharepoint with this configuration and sent students directly to the page but not with sites being grayed out they cant navigate to it via the top nav bar.

 

If they visit our Sharepoint site via the direct URL domain.sharepoint.com the profile permissions are completely ignored, users can click OneDrive and newsfeeds here, this will successfully create a OneDrive/personal site account despite the user permissions saying otherwise

 

 

Microsoft terminology - Deny permissions to create personal sites

Normal person - Remove a link in only some locations
