Maternity pay for teachers

Hi

 

My wife and I are thinking about having children. But i'm trying to get my head around the maternity pay and if we can afford to yet.

 

Was wondering if anyone here has a better understanding of it or has a partner thats a teacher and has been through it.

 

She is on M3 so from what i can see on the direct gov website this would mean:

6 weeks on - £439.96

33 weeks on - £136.78

 

But how do i transfer this to a monthly amount? This would really help me with budgeting as i take it, it would still be paid monthly. Are there still deductions on this with it being £7153.50 for the year? Do we continue to pay Student loan, Pension, Tax?
