How did you get the extra apps?

See if you can swap it for a slightly higher model so like the BD-F5500 which supports : Netflix, LOVEFiLM, KnowHow, Curzon, YouTube, Facebook, Twitter

This blu-ray played looked pretty good for the price... now it seems a bit of a ball ache!

PS 3 consoles have come down to about £130 or there abouts and you can get netflix / love film and possibly other stuff on there , go to the PS Store and download them, updates the firmware over the internet via a wired or wireless connection and works :)

If I re call correctly you can even buy a remote control for a PS 3 to control the video functionality instead of using the PS 3 controller ( either works )

We set the zone to US on set up, from there, we put the file on for the zip to be seen, then updated the firmware. On the new firmware we downloaded the apps.

Where did you set that the only zone setting I can see is time zone. Am I being a moron?

I have a PS3!

£50-60 on a smart blu-ray player for the GFs place could be a decent buy though!

Anyway of doing a factory reset on it so it goes through the setup again ?

Just did but it doesn't ask for a zone. I'm thinking that the hardware is exactly the same with different firmware, I just need to work out how to flash it :)

using the uk version firmware and plug in the usb flash drive as it instructs as per the pdf guide I posted earlier ?? Unless Samsung or Carl can send you a specific / different firmware file ?

set your time zone to EST, CST, or PST and route through a proxy. should trick it to think its the US. We had the option when we loaded it up though. So perhaps we got a slightly different version to you?

Set time zone to time zone listed as GMT-8 LA, San Fran but no joy. Does your mum def have the BD-F5100/XU version?

It's already got the 1010.1 firmware you posted. I need to try to get the US firmware on I think.

How would I route the player through a proxy?

Called and she checked.

she has the BK version.

SAM-DVD-BDF5100-BK according to the box

Typical. Why do they have to make things so damn hard. Looks like I'll be trying to swap it tomorrow for a Samsung 5500 3D which is £79 but apparently does support Netflix.

Good news peeps (well good in the circumstances), I went into Argos today and told them my tale of wo and they agreed to take the player back. In it's place I bought a BD-F5500/XU and it does Netflix and a few other things inc social media nonsense.

It did cost me more than I could have got it online but I couldn't face waiting for Yodel, DPD or some other useless parcel firm letting me down again after already waiting 3 days for a parcel that didn't arrive.

Anyway It's up and running with a happy Cookie Monster watching Archer via Netflix.
