zag Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 (edited) I've been going round in circles in the lovely Solus 3 interface trying to find out how to install Discover onto an agent. If I re-install the agent it only installs the Sims Client and nothing else. How do I push the Discover client out manually? I've tried redeploying the Discover update but it only applies to PCs that were connected originally when the update was released. Edited March 4, 2014 by zag
Ghostgame Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 Have you added the workstation as a Discover client/workstation in the Discover Channel?
MrMat Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 By redeploy do you mean going to Deployment History, finding the Discover release and then hitting Deploy?! If so, that will only run for those original in your DE at the time of the original deployment. To pick up new machines, go back through Manage Updates and re-download (if required) and then Deploy from there. I believe that should pick up all the Discover Clients in your DE.
Cache Posted March 4, 2014 Posted March 4, 2014 I can't remember (and can't log in to take a look at the moment) but I'm pretty sure Discover doesn't have a redeploy option and it doesn't have an automatic deployment option when it is allocated to an agent like SIMS/FMS do. To install discover on a new machine, you follow the process like @MrMat says however you select your Discover version you have installed and deploy that again as if you were doing an update and it will sort it's self out. You need to do that each time you add a device or a discover deployment fails/times out on a device. Hope that makes sense.
zag Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 Yeh I've tried that but for some reason it doesnt work. I go Manage Updates -> click on Sims Discover 2013 Autumn >> Deploy now But under "targets to be deployed to" I only have around 83 pc's. The other 40 I have added since then do not show Do I have to do something with the "targets"?
zag Posted March 5, 2014 Author Posted March 5, 2014 Have you added the workstation as a Discover client/workstation in the Discover Channel? Aha this was it! How convoluted is that haha You need to specifically go to Solus 3 agents >> Update environment >> Channel pulldown >> Sims Discover >> Discover Client >> Add computers Then add all your computers AGAIN... They really need to employ some User Interface designers at Capita. What a crazy way to do things! A simple right click on agent >> install discover would work a lot better!!
silver_uk Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 If you are upgrading Discover on SOLUS3 you must use SOLUS3.6 and the server component will not upgrade if it is on Windows Server 2003 or XP If you are using SOLUS 3 version 3.5.20. it doesnt seem to find the Traget Version. The most recent version of Discover which is the Autumn release is incompatible with this version of SOLUS. There is an ISO available which you can use to download Discover onto a new workstations (rather than using SOLUS), please see information from the Autumn release notes: I did the manual install - now asking for a username and password to use discover through Sims... Here we go again

matt40k Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 And so begins the long nightmare of running a soon to be unsupported OS
