MS Office 2010 shortcuts!

Hi guys.

I came across with a shortcut issue while I was setting upsome laptops.

Here is the setup:

The users have identical desktop and start menus. I setupcouple of new Toshiba laptops to replace existing ones. I installed MS Office2010 and some other programs then I logged in as the user. The shortcuts forany of the MS Office programs were not working. It said that the program notinstalled. Than I thought it must be to do with the fact that the laptop is64bit and the shortcuts are for 32bit. So I created the shortcuts on the laptopand I copied them to shared area where the other shortcuts were. After I loggedin as the user but the new shortcuts were not working either. Then I thought itmight be to do with the start in bit in the shortcut so I gave the exactlocation of the program but that didn’t work either. Lastly I created acompletely new shortcut pointing to the exe file like word before creating it Itested the location by pasting into the browser which worked so then I createdthis shortcut but frustratingly the shortcut was still not working.

Any ideas?

We run Windows 7 64 Bit and 32 Bit Office. This is what our shortcut looks like:

Yes that's how the problematic shortcut looks like.

If you add the setup property DISABLEADVTSHORTCUTS=1 to your MSP file (using the Office Customization Tool) it will make the Office shortcuts look like normal shortcuts (rather than "advertised" shortcuts).

How do you do that?Ive just used the software and manually installed it on each laptop. Never used the tool to deploy them. Thanks

I fixed it by login as the user and reinstalling office.

Sorry for the delay getting back to you. Although you have fixed it now, for future reference, this is how you would do what I mentioned above.

 

Open the Office Customization Tool (via Setup.exe /admin), goto the Modify setup properties section, click Add, enter DISABLEADVTSHORTCUTS for the Property and 1 for the value. Save the .msp in the 'Updates' folder, then install Office.

 

 

Alternatively you can put the following in your Config.xml file (this is located in the 'proplus.ww' sub-folder if you are using the Pro Plus edition of Office).
