Jawloms Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 When I moved in to my current house at the beginning of October, right at the top of the stair well out of reach was a butterfly. Last week, my wife found the cat chasing it around the house, she opened the door and it flew away. Is that normal??
featured_spectre Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 Butterflies can live up to 9 months in optimum conditions, so not out of the ordinary. Just be wary of any eggs it may have laid for caterpillars (in case it was a fertile female) 1

witch Posted February 5, 2014 Posted February 5, 2014 They are looking for somewhere to hibernate - if you find them in a house you need to carefully relocate them to somewhere cooler but safe such as a shed or similar. In a house it is too warm and they probably won't hibernate which means they will use up all their food stores and starve.
