Recommend a used digital SLR on a budget

Never forget the golden rule. Hold the camera you are planning to buy, never buy just from others saying it is good.

If you do not like the feel of the camera (weight, shape, location of the buttons/wheels) then this will put you off using the camera.

 

Years ago I used to have a Canon EOS600 (yes, non digital version) and it was a lovely camera. When I went to digital SLR (Canon stuff had long gone) I went with the Nikon D90 which felt wonderful. The Canons didn't feel right in my hands.

I've got a Nikon D3200 and it's great.

I'd also recommend a D3200, can pick these up for under £300 with a lense but you'r better off getting a different lense to the stock bundled one. My missus is looking to sell her 350D with 18-55 IS lens, spare battery and shoulder bag, although I'm not sure what she wants for it... @Dos_Box if you're interested I'll email her now and ask her price

It's still a bit more than I'd be happy to pay. I'm looking at used as an introduction to DSLR's. Perhaps in a year or so I may want something better, but I am happy with Canon's and as a step-up think it would be my best route.

in that case think carefully you dont want to go down canon route get lenses etc then decide to switch to nikon later and have to start from scrach

Or a better Canon. I've been using Canon digital cameras now for about 10 years so am more than happy to stay with them. Also, I'm very familiar with their menu system and layout which counts for buckets in the usability stakes for me.

ditto dont think ive owned a non canon. did try nikons before i bought my old 400d by they felt wrong
