HP Server weirdness

I've got a new proliant ML350p server with a 6 disk caddy. 2 Disks are attached to the onboard raid in RAID1 and the other 4 are attached to an additional HP RAID card in RAID5. Everything is working as expected and the OS is installed and running fine on both arrays.

 

What is odd though is that the drive activity lights are showing 'normal' activity on the two RAID1 array drives (i.e intermittent) but the RAID5 drives are showing continuous activity, even though nothing is writing to that volume. The array isn't resynching or anything like that so I'm baffled why the drives are showing constant activity, I've never seen that before in all of the servers I've installed?

Are the disks official HP disks?

We used unofficial ones (cheaper) and they didn't work at all.

A common fault apparently.

All genuine HP - brand new from a box! The server was delivered as specified and all I've done is configure the raid and bung on the OS (server 2012)

This is banging my head in now! If I watch the drive in task manager (one drive=one volume) there is absolutely no drive access at all, yes the three drives show the 'spinning' I/O lights!

 

I suppose I'll have to log a fault with HP now!

It's not a feature for that array type is it that it should flash in that pattern for a R5 array?

Not that I'm aware of, the previous generation only show activity and the other two drives that form a raid1 array only show activity!
