enjay Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Our users don't have admin rights, so I'm thinking that disabling auto-updates and then manually distributing a new MSI every 6-12 months is the way to go, but all the Google documentation says not to do that. How do you have yours set?

We use the Chrome Group Policy Templates supplied by Google to manage the browser, disable auto updates, lock safesearch etc. Then we push a new MSI out when an update is required. 1
Arthur Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 Our users don't have admin rights The Google Update service automatically installs Chrome updates for standard users so they don't need admin rights. We have Chrome set to auto-update because it updates Flash Player at the same time then.

Don't think that's the case on our out-of-the-ark CC3 network, but worth knowing for next year, especially if it will do Flash updates too.

We are using the google update group policy and everything just works... it updates just fine on our cc3 network. We do it for the same reasons of updating flash! 1

enjay Posted January 28, 2014 Author Posted January 28, 2014 Thanks guys. Not related to the updater, but what have you done with the "set user data directory"? I'd like to have that somewhere in their roaming profile, but struggled to get that to work at my last school. Also, what do you do about bookmarks? Without every staff member getting a Google account, is there a way to save their bookmarks anywhere, ideally somewhere in their roaming profile/MyDocs folder?
free780 Posted January 28, 2014 Posted January 28, 2014 For updating service to work somehow it would need to get through your proxy and firewall. You also lose control and cant test a new version before updating.

You also lose control and cant test a new version before updating. I reckon Google probably do enough testing of it. Unless I'm missing something...
