I am having difficulty's trying to get the wireless BYOD's to use our smoothwall proxy despite me creating the WPAD file. The devices are currently using our Fortinet filtering system which I don't want them to use - any device which doesn't have a proxy enabled uses this.

 

Any idea's?

Have you tried configuring the proxy server to be transparent rather than requiring explicit configuration?

 

In general, proxies are considered by many to be an anachronism and poorer practice these days where not used in a reverse proxy role, especially as the highest bandwidth consumers are typically not cached.

 

The best way to filter is in-line via the default gateway address that a client has.
