[wds] PXE-E32 TFTP Open Timeout error

Dear all,

 

WDS was working fine, however i tried to build a PC today and i got the error PXE-32: TFTP Open Timeout

 

I have tried 4 PC's in 4 locations and all have the same issue.

 

I had a look on the net and found a reg edit fix (change udpport policy to 0) , however i still have the same problem.

 

Any ideas?

This happens when the dns server is running on the same machine as WDS. DNS uses the ports that tftp service needs. This can leed to clients not booting at all just sitting there failing to tftp, if their boot order has lan set higher than HDD.

Windows Server 2008 r2 x64 - fix

 

run regedit

 

- go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Servic es\WDSServer\Parameters

 

- Right-click UdpPortPolicy, and then click Modify.

 

- In the Value data box, type 0, and then click OK.

 

- On the File menu, click Exit to exit Registry Editor.

 

- Restart the Windows Deployment Services service.

Windows Server 2008 x86 - Fix:

 

- Launch Windows Deployment Services management console.

 

- In the navigation pane of the Windows Deployment Services, Right-click the server for Windows Deployment Services, and then click Properties.

 

- Under Network, increase the UDP Port range. For example, if the current UDP port range is 64001 to 65000, increase the port range to: 60001 to 65000.

 

- Restart the Windows Deployment Services service.[/TD]

Problem solved, just realised the server had changed IP address! Set it to what it was before statically and now working.
