I am attending a 'coaching others' course next week and I have been asked to prepare a 10 minute, 1-1 coaching session on anything I want?

Im really struggling to think of any ideas. I know that they will be looking more at my delivery rather than content but I still would like to do something fairly interesting.

Anyone done anything like this before? what did you coach?

any help would be much appreciated.

thanks

Thats funny, I am a 3rd dan at Judo so that did cross my mind at one point!

The 1-1 will be a colleague, but not necessarily a techie colleague. Could be someone from HR or some other dept.

Oh mate do that - teach someone seio nage or something, request they turn up in sports gear and it'll be a riot. :)

Start with "Ideally I should teach you how to fall first but as we only have 10 minutes, this is Ippon Seoi Nage".

Thanks guys. As much as I would love to demonstrate the complexities of a seoi nage, I need something more 'desk based'.

Spoilsport! ;)

Well I guess the world is your lobster then. Could teach what an IP address is, how DNS works in overview (that's a favourite one,) if they're a teacher then demonstrate how the power button/helpdesk system work (jokes,) how a router works (in overview again.)

I like the idea of something like teaching them how DNS works. I may go down the route of what happens when you enter an address into a browser and how it retrieves a web page. not to sure about making it interesting though?

Well, that process has a history - hosts file into DNS and such... For ME though that stuff IS interesting so I'd be sitting there like it's a bedtime story with two thumbs up. Hehehe.

If you think you can sell it as arcane/dark art knowledge on how something REALLY works so much the better, if it doesn't sound like they'll engage with that sort of pitch then maybe not.

Don't do 'bits of your PC' as that'd likely done to death. Do 'why your ipad sucks' and you'll make enemies.

Hmmmmm... I shall ponder further.
