Printers - 3 computers all users.

I dont know if I'm been extreamly thick this morning but for some reason I cant do what I want to do.

 

I have had to reallocate a ip address to a printer which i have done. I have added the printer to the server and shared it in the directory.

 

We dont have the print server roll set up on the server and would like to avoid that if possible.

In the PPA office we have 3 computers that I would like to add the printer for, for all users.

I thought I just log on as a network admin and add them via the add printer section and that would do it for all users?? but that doesnt seam to work?

so its being "published" and is viewable if you "browse for a printer"?

 

if you have shared the printer queue you could just add the port manually (\\servername\"printersharename") and your driver and off you go or browse the server where is shared from and click connect and it will push the driver onto your machine (providing it has the correct one for your client on the server)

Yeah, its viewable in brows for printer.

The users when they log on can go in brows for a printer and add it that way. Is there a way for me to do it automatically so that when anyone logs on to any of them 3 computers that printer is already added?

you could use GPO but if you havent got that setup then adding the printer as a local port (the port being the full share path of the printer) and it will appear for all users regardless.

Logon script or you could give rights to the users so that they can add it themselves.

If your using local profiles, when you install the printer as admin it will only install it for the admin profile, no other users will get it.

 

If you don't want to do it via Group Policy - easiest way would be to install as a local printer. Local printers appear for all users that log in.
