Darylrese Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 (edited) Good Evening all, I am thinking of removing roaming profiles for students now we have upgraded to Windows 7 as everything is done though group policy for student accounts. The only problem we have is when the user does not have a roaming profile, outlook 2010 needs to be setup each time. Is there a way of bypassing the setup or automatically applying the required settings through a script or GPO? Currently, the student has to click 'Next' three times and finish in the configuration wizard before they can access their email each time they logon but all settings are already populated automatically Many thanks Edited January 5, 2014 by Darylrese
Liam Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Download the office adm and you can configure profiles automatically in gpo. Works well You could also use prf files but the first option is my preferred option. If you need more help pm me
Darylrese Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Thank-you! do you know the setting location in group policy please? I have already imported the adm template into group policy for outlook 2010
DavetheITguy Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 You can use the adm template that can be downloaded from Microsoft, under outlook settings you can configure it so that the mailbox will configure automatically, I would strongly recommend disabling cache as well, this will allow new mailbox users to appear in the address list instantly rather than waiting for it to refresh.
Darylrese Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Yep I hate outlook cache mode as it takes ages for people to appear in the GAL and groups. Its already disabled through GPO in the way described above. I have the templates installed already, I just need to know what setting to change to configure the mailboxes automatically.
DavetheITguy Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 try this, I cant access my work computer to check but i think it is this, Under User Configuration\Administrative Templates\ Microsoft Office Outlook 2007\Tools | Accounts settings\Exchange, double-click Automatically configure profile based on Active Directory Primary SMTP address. Click Enabled, and then click OK Let me know if this works, if not i'll take a look at my config on my server.
Darylrese Posted January 5, 2014 Author Posted January 5, 2014 Thank-you very much, ill have a look when i'm in the office tomorrow
