Anyone else hit by FASTHOST UKREG failure this morning..

I got an email arroudn 10AM from "montastic" monitoring, indicating that our schools websites and my own websites wer unreachable?

 

Schools hosted at the school,

Mine in a small DC out of town,

 

No Common link in terms of power, internet provison, platform, etc....

 

Quick investigation lead me to surmise that DNS was not functional, none would resolve.

 

All DNS hosted on UKREG.... Of to UKREG website...

 

No response,

 

Fasthost website , AWOL..

 

took about 20 mins for Twitter ( Finaly a use for it ) to be updated with a quick note to say that they had had a major network failure as a result of power loss.

 

For us it was an inconvinience. For others with Hosted servers or relying heavily on their DNS/E-mail services it was more of an issue.

 

They got most of it back up within 90 mins or so.

 

I may have to make some changes so that the Pri/Secondary DNS are not both Fasthost ( they dont seem to have servers in different physical locations for this! )

being fair they have beeen 99.9 but dont understand why core dns was not distributed..

 

myhunch is a genset failed to start.
