andybarker27 Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Just about to replace a SIMS server. Attached is a spec for Dell t110. I would usually use the t320 series but this school is strapped for cash. is the t110 with 16gb ram enough ThanksDell t110.pdf
vikpaw Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 RAM is okay, processor is probably okay, but i'd want more disks, to separate the OS from the data partition and ideally have better RAID than mirroring. 1
newpersn Posted December 29, 2013 Posted December 29, 2013 I would find out what you got to spend. I would go raid 5. Don't need 1tb. 500gb would do the job over a few discs. 80 gb for o's and rest for data.
matt40k Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 RAM is okay Depends really, how much is the RAM and is it a primary school running just SIMS with SQL Express, cause that's only going to use 1GB ram, so anything over 4GB is wasteful really. 8GB would be more practice unless it doesn't cost much more then go nuts! Like you said more disks would be the better option, a pair of good SSD ideally otherwise you need more disks.
ICTDirect_Dave Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 If you're strapped for cash then give me a bell when you get back... We've sorted loads of primaries and secondaries with superb refurb SIMS servers for far less than the cost you would be looking at for that dell. You'll even get a couple of years warranty for free too
