Joomla Extensions - PDF downloader

 

I am looking for an extension that will display pdfs and .doc/docx etc. that simply displays the contents of a folder on the web server. This way our Admin team can post what they want when they want without having to go through me.

 

Anyone know any?

Also, read the description its not clear to me whether you can just drop stuff in a folder and it will show?

Got it set up. Looks good tried a few documents in it and that's working.

 

One issue I have is I cant access the folder on the server from a non administrator user.

 

What I have done so far is;-

 

---- to add a security group to the folder in windows.

 

---- the user can now navigate to the folder and make changes etc. i.e. they run \\servername\drive$\ this gives them access. They can now click each folder and work their way down to \\servername\drive$\site\joomla_32\Documents\Policies

 

---- the user can not just run \\servername\drive$\site\joomla_32\Documents\Policies and go direct to the folder it says it doesn't exist. (this is obviously some IIS security thing)

 

---- I want to have a link on our intranet so they can just open the folder and drop stuff in. or put a short cut on their desktops.

 

Anyway around this?

Why don't you just share the joomla_32\documents folder on your server?

You user can then browse to \\servername\sharename\polices and drop the file in.

Drive$ is only available for admin users

Update:

 

The user can drop files in the folder and they appear through the website but you click on them and you get a 500 internal error. Any ideas?

 

checked permissions on the file all groups like IUSRS etc are correct.

Error 500 could be anything.... before you click on the file that gives you a 500 error, check to see if the URL to the file is actually displaying correctly and not pointing to a location that is not accessible.

The location is accessible the file permissions are right.

Tried it in IE, chrome and fire fox

 

A file that was accessible is now no longer accessible.

 

Really confused..

Tested your link this morning, and the only file that gave a 500 error was the PDF for your order confirmation.

I've found the easiest method to identify 500 errors on our Joomla, is stop IIS and use Apache, which display and/or logs more sensible error messages.

 

Why aren't we just using Apache rather than IIS? You'll have to ask the boss...

Update- (because I forgot before christmas) it seems to be an issue with the joomla extension. Rectified it by just using word documents. Not ideal but it works. If I discover another way I will add it to the how you do it section. cheers for the help all.
