Anyone going to BETT I highly recommend this place down Freemasons Road: Excel Cafe, 27 Freemasons Road, London - Cafes, Snack Shops & Tea Rooms near Custom House Tube Station Best breakfasts in the area.

 

You can also get a good curry from Elite Dining immediately opposite the steps if they are open. The Chinese restaurant in the former Custom House Hotel has also been closed down and replaced with a steak house. Meanwhile the pub immediately next to the steak house does some amazing burgers.

 

A few places to avoid though; Bollywood Brasserie was a massive let down for the price (£20 buffet!) and Airline Café opposite the Ibis was atrocious when I last visited, not worth it with Freemasons a short walk away. The food in the Makiyaki Japanese restaurant on the waterfront is decent but let down by somewhat shoddy service. There is nowhere inside the Excel Centre itself that is anything vaguely of note.
