Windows 8 Display Name

Hi All.

 

I hope this hasnt been asked, I have searched .....

 

On the Windows 8 Start Screen the users First & Last name is displayed, not the DisplayName. This will be an issue for some staff members, can it be changed?

As far as I know it will pull whatever is in AD. If you need to change it, that's where the change has to be made. That change will of course affect anything else that pulls from the same location (including Exchange email if you have it, and Office 365 and Google Apps if you sync from AD). Thats what I thought however, its pulling in givenName & sn from AD, not displayName. Found this in the registry:

"ADGivenName"="Fred"

The name on the Start Screen "Fred Bloggs"

 

The user has Mr F Bloggs set as his displayName in AD, but its not getting pulled in. Gggrrrrrr.

Sorry got myself at crossed purposes there. What I was getting at is that what you've spotted; the displayName is ignored by the Start Screen. The only way of changing what is displayed is to change the givenName and sn fields. Contrary to what I said earlier, this won't affect their outgoing mail header in Exchange, but it would affect other systems like O365 and Google Apps.

Are MS determined to make things difficult for Education\Business users. It may seem a little thing but Mrs Fanny who teaches Class 6 English Period 1, may not want all the little tykes to know her first name is Afelia!!!!!!!!!!!!! ITS CALLED DISPLAYNAME FOR A REASON.
