August update + SQL change compulsary?

Recommended Posts

Yeh great, just did the Aug update and no problems, Seems the September update is just a DVD disk of the Aug update, it contains nothing extra.

Push the SQL change under the rug for a few more weeks then ;)

Anyone had the cast iron unmentionables to do the SQL migration yet. I think everything is in place (just a few issues with RMs Portal PLus to sort out first).....I just don't want to break SIMS.

Anyone have an idea how long it will take?

Thanks

I Installed SQL2005 on the server, alongside SQL2000. All seemed to go well.

until users logged into SIMS for the first time, and logged out.

SIMS seemed unable to locate the correct SQL instance, even though no DB was detached or migrated. I ended up having to remove SQL2005 to get SIMS working again.

Not looking forward to the November update!

I've done SQL2005 and FMS migration so far, all seems to be working (as much as it ever does).

Did you change the connect.ini klawd? The instructions are quite good. I also had to remove some lines from my connect.ini on the clients too though.

Where are the instructions? I check capita's site but there are about 10 different hot topics on the migration!

Also did you need the SA password?

The file on Supportnet SIMSSQL2005Migration_12873.pdf is pretty helpful and straightforward (for a change). I came unstuck when our server wasn't on SP1 at least...which took an extra hour.

Also when it prompted for the db to migrate, the list was empty, a solution for which was posted on here in my thread "SIMS SQL Help Needed" or something similar

...the guide doesn't tell you about this "feature"
