Windows 7 intermittent profile issue

Hello,

 

Hopefully someone can help. When one of our students login, all they get is a temporary profile giving them access to the control panel etc. After a few restarts on the same PC everything appears to be working fine. This problem is intermittent but is affecting alot of machines in the school. I have tried the registry fix (removing the .bak entry) and also removing their local account. We do not use roaming profiles for the students. Anyone have any ideas?

What happens if you use delprof2 to properly remove the temporary accounts?

Thanks for the reply. We have a tool that runs delprof2 daily, when you run this manually it works briefly but when another student logs into the same machine we experieince the same problem again.

Ok no worries; are you using mandatory profiles therefore? Anything in the event viewer upon logon that gives a reason for the temporary account being used?

Thansk again for your response. We are using mandatory profiles. I have just checked the event viewer on several of the machines after asking the students to login and it appears that one of our group policies may be the cause. It states: "The processing of Group Policy failed. Windows attempted to read the file \\domain.local\SysVol\domain.local\Policies\{FD609C25-B0B1-4335-90DA-A8B3ECECD306}\gpt.ini from a domain controller and was not successful. Group Policy settings may not be applied until this event is resolved. This issue may be transient and could be caused by one or more of the following:"

 

I have disabled this policy and going to run a gpupdate /force and a reboot and see what happens. Ill repost once completed.

I've had this when SYSVOL stopped replicating between my DCs. If you look at the DFSr logs on all your DCs there might be an event along the lines of "DFS has stopped replicating drive C: because of a jet data base issue" (or something like that I don't have it to hand now) It should also have a command to get replication going again. Backup SYSVOL first from each DC just incase DFSr decides to move everything to Conflict and Deleted

Sorry for the late response. I have managed to resolve the issue by disabling the group policy that was causing the conflict. Thanks again to everyone who helped out
