mrbios Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 I need to export some data from sims and i just need some pointers on how to get this specific information in a specific format... I've had an export from nova-t4 given to me but it wasn't ideal as it put all the classes in columns rather than rows. I need the 3 columns to be: Admission numbers / Class / Year of intake The tricky bit is that i need it to be listed by class which the sims reports don't appear to allow me to do. So what i want to see is: Class 7B/CM1 in Column A 20-30 times, then the admission number of every student in that class in Column B. Then the next class and so on. Column C isn't quite so important as i can enter that manually really. Is this possible? and if so how?
FishCustard Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 You don't need to sort by class in the report, as once you've got the data into Excel you can just sort the class code column (or have I got the wrong end of the stick?)
rush_tech Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 ^^what he said sort the data in excel a lot easier
mrbios Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 (edited) Ok, I've just tried that but first i need to fill in the blanks. Each user has admission number in once, then blank below until the next user...normally a simple task but for some reason it won't let me unless i highlight the empty cells and delete the non existent contents (there was a space in there) quick method for resolving that please? EDIT: to explain a bit better, if i go to find + select, go to special and select blanks it fails to highlight the cells until i've highlighted them and pressed delete even though those cells are empty. I've tried a TRIM command to remove the space, but i still seem to have to do it. Edited November 20, 2013 by mrbios
FishCustard Posted November 20, 2013 Posted November 20, 2013 Untick 'suppress duplicate records' when running the SIMS report. 1
mrbios Posted November 20, 2013 Author Posted November 20, 2013 Perfect, hopefully this will get me a few steps closer to what i wanted. Thanks for the help, no doubt i'll be back
